HOW TO MAXIMIZE EVERY BUSINESS CLOSING

HOW TO MAXIMIZE EVERY BUSINESS CLOSING

Turn One Closing Into Weeks of Marketing Content

By Jess Bousa

A business closing shouldn't be the end of the marketing process. It should become one of your best marketing opportunities.

Every successful transaction gives a business broker an opportunity to capture real-world proof that they can successfully guide buyers and sellers through the transaction process.

The goal is simple:

DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.

Photos. Videos. Testimonials. Reviews. Quotes. Introductions. Referrals.

One closing can potentially create 20+ pieces of marketing content.

1. GET THE GROUP CLOSING PHOTO

Before everyone leaves, get a professional-looking group photo.

Try to include:

  • Business Broker

  • Seller

  • Buyer

  • Attorneys

  • CPA/Accountant

  • Financial Advisor

  • Lender, if applicable

  • Other advisors involved in the transaction

Take several versions.

Photo #1: Everyone together
Photo #2: Broker + Seller
Photo #3: Broker + Buyer
Photo #4: Buyer + Seller
Photo #5: Broker + professional advisors
Photo #6: Handshake photo
Photo #7: Celebratory/candid photo

These can be used across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, newsletters, the website and future presentations.

Always confirm what transaction details and identities everyone is comfortable having made public before posting.

2. GET A SELLER VIDEO TESTIMONIAL

This may be the most valuable piece of content from the entire closing.

Keep it natural and short.

Ask the seller:

“What was it like working with me to sell your business?”

Then ask:

“What would you tell another business owner who's thinking about selling?”

Aim for 30–60 seconds.

Don't over-script it. Authenticity is the goal.

3. GET THE BUYER'S VIDEO

The buyer provides a completely different perspective.

Ask:

“How was your experience buying a business through us?”

Follow with:

“What would you tell someone who's thinking about buying a business?”

Finish with:

“Would you recommend us?”

Now you have social proof for both sides of the transaction.

4. INTERVIEW THE PROFESSIONALS

Don't stop with the buyer and seller.

Ask the other professionals involved if they would be willing to record a quick 15–30 second video.

CPA / ACCOUNTANT

Ask:

“What's one financial issue business owners should address before selling?”

ATTORNEY

Ask:

“What's one legal issue sellers should prepare for before putting their business on the market?”

FINANCIAL ADVISOR

Ask:

“What should a business owner consider financially before selling their company?”

LENDER

Ask:

“What's one thing buyers should know about financing a business acquisition?”

End each video with:

“What's it like working with [Broker Name] on a transaction?”

Now the closing has become an educational video shoot.

5. ASK EVERYONE FOR A REVIEW

This needs to become part of the standard closing checklist.

Ask the:

Seller. Buyer. Attorney. CPA. Financial Advisor. Lender.

Send the review link immediately.

Don't say:

“Leave me a five-star review.”

Instead:

“Would you mind sharing your experience working with us? Your feedback helps other business owners and buyers understand what the process is like.”

Make it incredibly easy.

Send the direct Google review link by text and email.

6. CAPTURE 10–15 SECOND SOCIAL CLIPS

These don't need to be formal testimonials.

Stand beside the seller and record:

“We officially closed! Congratulations to [First Name] on successfully selling the business!”

Then another with the buyer:

“Congratulations to [First Name] on becoming the new owner!”

Get a handshake.

Get people signing documents, if appropriate.

Capture the congratulations.

Capture the celebration.

Capture people walking out after the closing.

Get B-roll of the building or business if permitted.

These small clips can become Reels, Shorts and social posts.

7. CREATE THE “JUST SOLD” STORY

Every transaction has a story.

After closing, create a case study covering:

The Business: General description without disclosing confidential information.

The Challenge: Why was the owner selling?

The Strategy: How did the broker position and market the business?

The Buyer: How was the right buyer identified?

The Process: What challenges had to be overcome?

The Result: Successful closing.

The Lesson: What should other business owners learn from this transaction?

Turn this into a website case study, blog, LinkedIn post, email newsletter and social content.

8. TURN ONE CLOSING INTO 20+ CONTENT PIECES

A single closing could generate:

  1. Closing group photo

  2. Seller/broker photo

  3. Buyer/broker photo

  4. Buyer/seller photo

  5. Seller video testimonial

  6. Buyer video testimonial

  7. CPA video

  8. Attorney video

  9. Financial advisor video

  10. Lender video

  11. “Just Sold” Reel

  12. Closing-day Reel

  13. Seller quote graphic

  14. Buyer quote graphic

  15. Google review graphic

  16. Case study

  17. Blog article

  18. LinkedIn closing announcement

  19. Email newsletter

  20. Google Business Profile post

  21. YouTube Short

  22. Educational transaction video

One transaction can provide weeks of content.

9. BUILD YOUR REFERRAL NETWORK AT THE CLOSING

The CPA, attorney, lender and financial advisor shouldn't simply disappear after closing.

They're potential referral partners.

After the transaction, personally follow up:

“It was great working with you on this transaction. I'd love to stay connected and find opportunities to refer business to each other.”

Connect on LinkedIn.

Add them to your professional database.

Schedule coffee.

Include them in future educational videos.

Invite them onto your podcast.

The closing can create more than one client—it can create an entire referral network.

10. MAKE THIS A STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

Every broker should have a Closing Day Content Checklist inside the CRM.

Before anyone leaves the closing, confirm:

☐ Group photo
☐ Broker + seller photo
☐ Broker + buyer photo
☐ Buyer + seller photo
☐ Seller testimonial
☐ Buyer testimonial
☐ CPA video
☐ Attorney video
☐ Financial advisor video
☐ Lender video
☐ B-roll footage
☐ Seller review request sent
☐ Buyer review request sent
☐ Professional review requests sent
☐ Referral partner information collected
☐ Permission confirmed for public content
☐ Case study information documented

THE RULE

Never let a successful closing walk out the door without documenting the success.

You've just completed one of the most important financial transactions of your client's life.

Capture the story.

Capture the people.

Capture the testimonial.

Capture the expertise.

Capture the reviews.

And then turn that successful closing into marketing that helps generate the next seller, next buyer and next referral partner.
